Jesus died for you to take your punishment upon himself. You no longer need to carry your shame. Don't be ashamed any more. Jesus hung stark naked on the cross to bear your shame.
But we do not believe in a deceased martyr. Jesus came back from the grave. He rose again in the flesh so that we can be sure that his promises are true and reliable.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” Jn 11:25–26 NASB95
What does it mean to believe in Jesus? Have you entrusted your life to Jesus?
When Jesus died, his disciples panicked and despaired. We, too, are weak. But despite their doubts and misunderstandings, they still loved Jesus.
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Jn 20:19–20 NIV
But Thomas was not there. He was traumatised and could not believe until Jesus came to him too. Despite his doubts, he still loved Jesus. When he saw Jesus, the scales fell from his eyes.
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jn 20:27–28 NIV
Jesus knew their hearts and his love for them was even stronger. So it is with Jesus and you. If your heart is attached to Jesus despite everything, you must be sure that his love for you is immeasurably stronger.
If you are like Thomas, if your heart is attached to Jesus, you have eternal life. Your old life is over.

The Never Ending Love of Jesus
Have you been trying hard to do what God has called you to do?
Have you sacrificed your time and strength for the people you help?
Have you prayed with a sincere heart for the people God has given you to care for?
Yet you feel dry inside. The heavenly music that used to encourage you no longer stirs your heart as before. You no longer feel the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit as at other times.
You are fighting an ongoing battle with problems in your family, in your job, with your health or your finances.
One or two problems would already be a challenge, but in so many areas of life you don't see a clear path, but messes on every side.
As if that wasn't enough, you see a world around you that is overwhelmed by crisis after crisis.
And you see this not only in the daily news, but also in the high prices at the petrol station, in the supermarket and in the never ending pandemic.
Sometimes you feel so weighed down that your fresh enthusiasm for God is compromised, though you never give up in your dedication and caring for others.
Jesus sees your daily struggle and his compassion is still a blazing fire. Jesus loves you and his grace is new every morning.
Jesus has a word for you today.
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. La 3:22–25 NRSV

The gut wrenching compassion of Jesus
Why did Jesus heal every person who asked to be healed? Jesus healed out of deep compassion.
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14 NKJV
How are we to understand Jesus' deep compassion? In the original Greek text the word is ``splagchnisthḗsomai''.
What does it mean? In a word, gut-wrenching.
The suffering of the sick aroused such compassion in Jesus that his stomach turned.
When I was young I studied German literature at university. In my final year I had to study a drama based on the tortures of victims in the Auschwitz concentration camp. I was so distressed, that for some time after I finished my degree I didn’t want to read German any more.
God is deeply distressed when he sees human suffering, and he wants to do something about it.
Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him. Matthew 20:34 NASB95
A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said.
Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”
Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed. Mark 1:40–42 NLT
God is love. Jesus came as the Son of God to reveal God's character.
God never changes.
And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:38 NLT
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 NLT
If you or someone you love is seriously ill and suffering, Jesus is moved with deep compassion.
Don't be misled by cold theological theories.
Jesus wants to heal you.

God's Way Out for Traumatised Victims
In the decades after the war, there were Jews who could not bear to hear the German language.
Some people were so traumatised as children that they never want to marry. Some become homosexuals; others live in de-facto relationships. Others run away as teenagers and become homeless.
There are also many Christians who are so manipulated and disrespected in churches that they often feel threatened in church services.
God has given us homeland, family, marriage and church, but when these gifts of God are corrupted by lust for power, there are countless victims who find life unbearable.
My wife and I were in a wonderful church for about ten years. Many loved God with a good heart. Many reached out to people on the streets.
Everyone was welcome: homeless, witches, prostitutes, it didn't matter.
Some New Age people came to seek God, others came to practice witchcraft against us, but the Christians prayed with power and authority so that the devil could not gain the upper hand.
Such a situation can become chaotic. There are some communities where the leaders are harsh rulers, perhaps out of greed for power, or perhaps out of fear of chaos.
Our pastor often said it was easer for him to control people than to lead free people, but he was determined to respect everybody's freedom.
Paul also believed in freedom. He was extremely critical of preachers who wanted to rule harshly. He told the Christians in Corinth not to submit to such leadership.
You put up with it when someone enslaves you, takes everything you have, takes advantage of you, takes control of everything, and slaps you in the face. 2 Corinthians 11:20 NLT
Paul not only criticised the arrogant preachers for their cruelty, but also submissive Christians, for their obedience.
Cruel abuse of authority wreaks havoc. Many women and men want nothing more to do with God or the church because of severe Christian parents, teachers or preachers.
A good preacher told how she was out on the streets proselytising among prostitutes. Quite a few young women on the street came from devout Christian families.
How can we win the traumatised victims for Jesus?
Our role model is Jesus. He preached very hard against the sins of the arrogant religious leaders, but he was gentle and kind with the despised sinners.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.” ’ Luke 7:34 NIV84
Are you yourself badly hurt, rejected and traumatised? Do you need to submit again to escape God's judgement? Many wrestle with such terrifying thoughts.
God's ways for you are quite different. He wants to welcome you kindly and help you with gentleness.

Your New Life
I feel so imperfect, so flawed, so incomplete, but God approves of me as His son. Only because of what Jesus did on the cross, paying for all my sins. My record is wiped clean.
I am a work in progress, but God sees the finished product.
I am a building site, and God is the architect and builder. He loves to see his beautiful house taking shape.
God enjoys the work He is doing in my life.
As I wrote these thoughts on my computer, I felt touched by the love of God. Then I felt that I had God's approval to modify these words a little so that God Himself would speak directly to me.
You feel so imperfect, so flawed, so incomplete, but I approve of you as My son. Only because of what Jesus did on the cross, paying for all your sins. Your record is wiped clean.
You are a work in progress, but I see the finished product.
You are my building site, and I am the architect and builder. I love to see My beautiful house taking shape.
I enjoy the work I am doing in your life.
When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 The Living Bible
Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.
And God has made all things new, and reconciled us to himself, and given us the ministry of reconciling others to God. 2. Cor 5:17-18 The Passion Translation

God sees you as a Jewel
The high priest in Israel wore a breastplate. On this breastplate were 12 precious stones. Each gem represented one of the tribes of Israel. This meant that the high priest had all the tribes of Israel on his heart.
Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there was a ruby, a topaz and a beryl;
in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald; Exodus 39:10–11 NIV84
Not all high priests were good men, but Jesus is now our faithful and loving high priest in heaven.
Jesus carries not only all Jews on his heart, but all people. Every person who trusts and loves Jesus is a jewel in God's heart.
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 NASB95
And the people who are lost? The atheists, Hindus and nominal Christians?
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NLT
No one is excluded from God's loving heart.
You are like a precious stone in God's eyes. You can also pray for your family and your adversaries as well. God loves your enemies too.

God has Better Plans
Are you discouraged? Disappointed? Anxious?
Are you really down?
Before the Last Supper, the apostles were disappointed and deeply shaken.
But how was that possible? They were Jesus' closest friends. They believed he was the Son of God, their Saviour and Redeemer. He was with them in the flesh. And they were dismayed?
A few days earlier, Jesus had arrived in Jerusalem. The crowds had acknowledged him as the Messiah with great excitement.
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9 NIV84
The Jews, and also the apostles, expected that Jesus as Messiah would then establish the Kingdom of God, that Jesus would rule the world as King in Jerusalem.
But Jesus did not. Everyone was disappointed. The religious leaders could now manipulate the disappointed Jews.
Instead of the expected triumph, the disciples stared disaster in the face.
What did Jesus say to this?
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. John 14:1 NIV84
You have expected a great revival, prayed for it for years, heard wonderful prophecies.
Yet the Corona disaster came. Where is God? You no longer understand anything.
What is Jesus saying now?
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. John 14:1 NIV84
You were expecting something wonderful from God. You have waited a long time for it, and now you are shaken.
My father was 70 years old. He had been smoking 40 cigarettes a day for many years and his lungs were black inside. I had prayed for him for years but there was no sign of faith.
He was tormented by emphysema. That was a death sentence.
Then I started praying a new prayer. "Please let my father live until he comes to faith."
At the age of 88, he converted. He was very weak, but there was no sign of emphysema.
Finally he turned 91. He was half blind and life had become a burden to him.
Then I read in the Bible:
With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:16 NKJV
I gave thanks and praise to God. And then I prayed a very bold prayer.
"Dear God, you have heard my prayer, but my father is really suffering. How would it be if my father goes to heaven exactly 16 days after his 91st birthday?
Exactly 16 days later, Jesus took my father to heaven with no pain.
In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:2–3 NKJV
God has good plans for us, and that includes you.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. John 14:1 NIV84

Jesus saves victims of Abuse
It hurts when you see Christians in leadership and they use the same dishonest political tactics as unbelievers. I have often felt I was being manipulated by Christian leaders and I was not wrong to think this way.
It hurts when you are pressured into supporting Christian leaders who are promoting themselves and their party, faction or ministry more than justice and mercy.
Every time there is an election coming, I feel stressed because of the twisting and manipulation going on around me.
When I asked God about it, I believe the Holy Spirit gave me a very clear answer.
Politics is all about manipulation. It is what it is.
What does the Bible say about this?
There are leaders who want to hide their mistakes, or the sins of their colleagues.
For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. Mark 4:22 NKJV
There are leaders who demand unconditional submission.
The Apostle Paul was a true and faithful leader. Paul himself denounced the practice of dictatorial leadership.
For you bear it if someone makes slaves of you, or devours you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or strikes you in the face. 2 Corinthians 11:20 ESV
Then Paul defines the foundation of true Christian fellowship.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21 NIV84
Some Christians might assert that this mutual submission should only apply to Christians of equal rank. But how did Jesus apply this truth?
The first Christian chosen by God to witness to the resurrection was not an apostle but but Mary Magdalene. When she and other women told the fearful apostles they had seen Jesus, they did not believe. How did Jesus respond?
Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. Mark 16:14 ESV
When a leader goes wrong, some Christians claim he was not chosen by God, but King Saul was chosen by God.
There are Christians who claim that you must never publicly criticise a chosen leader, but David openly accused Saul.
Suppose you have been abused, bullied, gas-lighted and cast out by Christian leaders, pastors or politicians.
What does Jesus think about this?
In John 9, Jesus healed a blind man. When the man testified that Jesus had healed him, the religious leaders excommunicated him.
Jesus didn’t just heal the man. He sought him out to help him when he had become a persecuted outcast.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”
Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”
He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshipped him. John 9:35–38 ESV
Have you been bullied and cast out by religious leaders? Please don’t blame Jesus. He wants to help you personally. The same religious leaders crucified Jesus, but he returned from the grave.
As a young Christian I was excommunicated but I learned that the cruel leaders were not the source of my salvation but Jesus Himself.
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:2–3 ESV
Jesus gathered the outcasts of Israel and he also gathers the Christian outcasts today.
