Love is patient, love is kind. 1 Cor 13:4 NIV
1 Cor 13 describes the love of God, which is the way Jesus loves, because Jesus is the perfect expression of the love of God.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Jn 14:6–9 NIV
Jesus has patience... Despite all frustration, he can wait. He wants us all to live holy lives. He wants us to trust Him completely. He wants us to heal the sick and lead many people into His kingdom and we often fail but He can wait because He loves us.
“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” Lk 9:41 NIV
Jesus' disciples could not cast out a devil and Jesus felt great frustration.
What about us?
Jesus expects a lot from us, but He can wait because He loves us.
But He does not wait passively. The Spirit of God is always at work to transform us through His love
Jesus is long-suffering and kind.
Martin Luther translated Kind as “Freundlich”. (Friendly) I find this inspiriting.
But Jesus is kind and friendly.
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Jesus is kind. This doesn't just mean that Jesus likes to help. Ps 118:1 NASB95
Jesus also seeks to win you as His friend. He is looking for a genuine, deep friendship with you!
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. Jn 15:15 NKJV
Jesus wants to give you so many revelations because He loves you so much.
Jesus wants to equip, train and use you as His partner in ministry because He loves you so much.
We are often so busy in Christian ministry that we sometimes neglect our love and friendship with Jesus.
But what can make our ministry fruitful? Only the love of God and our friendship with Jesus.
