You long for more.
There is a longing and yearning within you so that you cannot find deep peace.
If your life is not completely devastated, a little joy and peace comes here and there but you want more.
You may find sparks of fire and light in music or friendship but you have no lasting satisfaction because there is a great God who created you for something more.
O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Ps 63:1 NASB95
People who really know this God also have this hunger and thirst, but they know where they can find real fulfilment.
God himself has such a longing and yearning for you, for me and for you.
He created you to be his beloved daughter or son and not just in this lifetime, which is passing, but for eternity, with unlimited fulfilment, which is getting better and better.
You also long for recognition.
We all want to be important in the eyes of others. Some want to be world-famous. Others are satisfied when they are appreciated by their partners and children.
But nobody loves you like Jesus.
He sacrificed his life on the cross for you. He didn't just do this out of compassion, but because he sees you as a precious treasure.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Mt 13:44 NIV
Before his birth in Bethlehem, Jesus was already the eternal Son of God.
In his infinite love and wisdom, he saw you (and me) thousands of years in advance and he saw your life buried in the earth, like the treasure in the field.
He saw how the dirt of this earth would spoil your life, but he still recognised the heavenly treasure hidden in you.
The heavenly glory he saw in you he allowed to remain hidden, but he gave up everything he had to buy the field (this corrupt world) so that he could have you as his child.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jn 3:16 NIV
